Post by Reddrose » Sat Jul 16, 2005 2:07 pm

I am a Chinese, but I am an english lover. however, when I registered just now, I found that maybe I had come to the wrong place  here members' english is so excellent! and you guys are almost all english teachers! frankly, I feel rather inferior

even so, I still decised to post something here. my favorite topic is gossip, therefor, my question is:

Can I talk about some gossip here?

As I feared, you seem to be wanting TO (SPREAD) GOSSIP, rather than just talk about "the linguistics of gossip".

Well, all I can really say is, these Teacher Discussion Forums aren't here to provide a means to launch personal attacks on anyone, and even if anything you might want to post did manage to slip by the moderator, don't expect anyone to show much interest (it's not like we know or can therefore care who you are, where you live, who your friends and enemies are etc), or for the posts (if they are slanderous) to be around for long.

You'd probably be better posting on the China Forums over on the International Job/Discussion Forums, but your application for membership there is vetted, and even they only put up with so much nonsense. Have fun!

how did you know I would post some personal attacks here? maybe you just mixed your mind like that? I know, a narrow-minded person always takes others as his/her opponent. however, I am a newcomer here, don't you think you overdid?

anyway, I don't think the mod would be as inimical as you did. and I know this forum isn't yours, that is why I am still here.

Sure, Reddrose, whatever. I'd hardly say giving you the benefit of the doubt (that is, assuming at first that you had a serious interest in linguistics), and then helpfully pointing you to somewhere where gossip is more tolerated (indeed, often the only item of discussion) is (me) being "inimical". If there's anyone being inimical (to e.g. discussion) here (*'as you did'), it is you, with your strange and somewhat aggressive attitude.

Anyway, these sorts of "misunderstandings" unfortunately do happen, but they are usually the result of a lack of English (some people misread everything) and manners (as westerners understand them) on the moron's part. Such is life.

People are NEVER sorry for knowing things - knowledge is a virtue - so your "phrase" 'Sorry for knowing that' makes little sense. Now that I've fulfilled my duty as a teacher by informing you that you've made an error, perhaps you can do your half as a student and work out how you ought to have expressed yourself.

if a teacher tells his student :"what you said is nonsense." I don't think this teacher nice. instead, I think he has a huge problem to teach anything.

I mean, you are not a qualified teacher  sorry for my sincerity.

and you always say foul language, is that what a teacher should say? I don't think so.

a teacher, he should be well-mannered. but you insult people when you fail to argue with them. sorry, it is time for you to check yourself...

Reddrose, do you honestly believe that anybody reading this thread, anybody at all, will imagine that it's not you but I who's the one with the (attitude) problem here?

I didn't say what you wrote was total nonsense - I just said that it made little sense. If you weren't so lazy and/or forever in mostly a rage in your wierd love-hate relationship with English, you'd see where the error was in no time and soon be earning respect for your English ability rather than scorn (and the scorn is not because you are a learner, but a particular kind of learner: of the very presumptuous type).

Yesterday I just registered here for the purpose of learning english, but you insulted me when you replied my second post. I don't think that is what a teacher should do when meeting people at the first time.

and I just read many posts on many threads, I found that you tended to attack people when people have the different viewpoints. I know, you are narrow-minded. and you always use foul language when you argue with people. you know what? when you use foul language, that means you are failing anyway. but you don't seem to know this secret.

My dear, foul language isn't for a teacher, but for an uneducated person.
