On another forum, there's a guy from Saskatchewan claiming that he has never heard the second example in each of these pairs:
The cake tastes like chocolate.
The cake tastes of chocolate.
You smell like fish.
You smell of fish.
He claims that in Western Canada, "noun/pronoun + smells/tastes of..." is never used.
If there are any Canadians here, could they please comment on that?
