Toward , Towards

Hello there
I just wanted to find out if there is really any difference between the two.
(I don't think so.)

I would use 'He came towards me with a gun in hand', but not 'He came toward me with a gun in hand'.
Also, 'They came toward me' but I would not use 'They came towards me'.

(It seems like my preposition (towards) is agreeing with my subject - which is actually a bit strange.)

Thank You

Hi Briank,
As far as I know, there is no real difference between "toward" and "towards", only in that "toward" is the more familiar form in American English.
