TROPE(S)

Post by Wlyco » Wed Jan 17, 2007 2:02 am

What kind of trope are we dealing with in the following sentences:
He had a heart of gold
They were in love head over heels.
She fell for him like a ton of bricks

heart of gold could be the metaphor and ton of brick hyperbole. What is your opinion on this?

Thank you....
Vladimir

Don't you think that "heart of gold" could also be seen as exaggeration?

and ton of brick hyperbole.
So if she fell for him like a hundredweight of bricks that would be a cool statement of fact? Or is it the bricks that is hyberbolic, and the unexaggerated version is that she fell for him like a ton of gravel?
