Should I go sit in the corner once I've made the hat, Sir? Yes? Okay. And after I've sat there for hours, would Sir like his slippers? How about a foot rub? Wilco! Anything else? Agree with everything you could ever say? Certainly! You are THE GREATEST!! Who could say no?!

You certainly know how to make a fuss, but would you even know how to begin making a hat and writing a "D"?

I hear you and Lolwhiteassnow saying "the meek will inherit Dave's, if we've got anything to do with it".
And I hear you saying "I want to be the alpha male and no one is going to stop me."

That's 'cos he's a silverback!
If challenged by a younger or even by an outsider male, a silverback will scream, beat his chest, break branches, bare his teeth, then charge forward.
Remind you of anyone?

You two remind me of Ren and Stimpy.

Ren and Stimpy, eh? That's given me an idea for a poll:

Who does metal most resemble? (Characters arranged in roughly decreasing order of psychoticness)

a) George Liquor
b) The Fire Chief
c) Kowalski
d) Stinky Wizzleteats

psychoticness)

It is a must for this year's dictionary.

BTW, you write a "D", like this, "D". Hope it fits on the hat.

"Psychotic", one of those throwaway terms used by wussie and whingey, middle-class, would-be teachers and wannabe linguists when something is just beyond their ken.

The tribe has spoken

Post by lucy black » Wed Oct 31, 2007 11:08 pm

I browse this forum now and again, and I have sometimes thought to myself that "Metal 56" is rather a brutal man, with a taste for bullying and the  emoticon. His habits seem to include failing to listen, failing to admit he could be wrong, tiresome puns and speaking abstruse nonsense. I'm sure he has scared many decent people away from this forum.

I know it isn't pretty when well-to-do, middle-class and university educated ESL teachers gang up on a working class person :? However, moderator, I think the time has come to act. You warned him, and he threw it in your face. It seems to me that the tribe has spoken. Metal 56 has been voted out.

Perhaps expulsion will teach him a valuable lesson. And if he wishes to return with a nicer personality and a zero-post score, who can stop him? A softer name would be nice too - might I suggest "spongecake 23 1/2"?

I am afraid if you banned metal56 there would not be much linguistics left on this forum. We would just have vapid feel-good fluff from people like yourself and FH (whose posts I gave up reading a couple of years ago).

This is a linguistics forum, not a substitute teddy bear.

I don't think anyone here is arguing that every post should be bland and inoffensive. Stephen is rude, but rigorous; he attacks the posts rather than the posters, which I don't have a problem with.

And you may find this hard to believe, but I really would be sorry to see the back of Metal.

I guess from your much-reduced posting rates these past few years that you didn't read or want to respond to many of metal's posts either, SJ. Could it be that he (too?) in fact makes less of a positive or useful contribution than you're now making out (he does)?

How dare somebody with only half a dozen posts to her name insult a fellow linguist! Close ranks, lads!
