The plural makes more sense

Oranges are my favourite fruit
My favourite fruit are oranges *

Bourbons are my favourite biscuit(S)
My favourite biscuits are bourbons (wrong without the first plural)

However, we sometimes seem to favour the non-plural, I suppose for things that we are not very used to counting. It would be harsh to call either wrong, I think.
