Informal Assessment

Post by AnnM. » Wed Jun 20, 2012 3:48 pm

Hello all!

I want to incorporate informal assessment into my teaching this year but I am not quite sure how to approach this. I want to evaluates students' progress while they are participating in a learning activity, for example, a small-group discussion and use this information to make decisions about what to do next, namely, whether the students are ready to move on or whether they need more practice with the material. I am not sure what sort of rubric I can use for this and how to evaluate every student in what is usually a 5 to 10 minute discussion/communication activity. Any ideas? What has or has not worked for you in the past?

Thanks!
