Dear teachers:

If you are a K-12 teacher in the United States or Canada, you are invited to participate in a research project.

Purpose of the project: The purpose of the project is to develop a database of voices from a diversity of geographic locations, accents and dialects. These would be non-native English speakers who have been in the US for four years or less and have as their first language:
Arabic Armenian Bosnian
Croatian Farsi Filipino
Haitian (Creole) Hindi Hmong
Khmer Korean Japanese
Mandarin Polish Portugese
Russian Spanish Vietnamese
Native America Alaskan Hawaiian Dialects

Benefits: The database will be used as a baseline for a spoken English test we have developed, the benefit to you is to ensure representation of your language and also between $12 and $25 per student in compensation.

Duration: The student participation time is between 15 and 90 minutes.

Risks: There are no risks in participating in this project, the voices are merely used for their wavelengths.

Voluntary Participation/Alternative: Your participation in this project is voluntary. You have the right to withdraw at any time. You do not have to answer any questions you do not want to answer. The alternative is not to participate.

Statement of Confidentiality: Your responses will be confidential to ensure that they cannot be linked to you personally. Any personal information you provide that is linked to your name will be held in strict confidence when the data are presented in a written report.
