assessment for students are necessary as a tool for teacher to evaluate her/his teaching and the students' progress in learning . However, the students in my class ( in my previous years of teaching. now i am still further my studies and will be soon graduated and start teaching again )purposely learn and study for the tests or exams. It really help them to get good marks in the test/exam indeed. But I don't think that it is good to promote learning for only that purpose. How should i make my students consider that learning is for life? I would like to hear your opinion or suggestion from all of you. Thank you

First of all, look up the text Making it Happen:... (I forgot the full title sorry) written by Patricia Amato. This is an excellent resource for educators, and answers many of the questions you will have.

The main idea is to promote learner interest and autonomy through a participatory classroom, with students working on projects that interest them. It's the teacher's duty to guide students to that interest, and to provide tasks to complete that force them to develop proficiencies related to the completion of those tasks.

Another area to look at is incorporating strategies-based instruction into your lesson plans. A great resource for this is The Learning Strategies Handbook by Anna Uhl Chamot et al. You will find it very useful I promise.
