Drop out rate of EL students

Post by arp10 » Sun Jan 23, 2011 8:46 pm

I am currently reading Forbidden Language, by Patricia Gandara and Megan Hopkins, and I am astonished by the statistics quoted related to the high drop out rates for EL students. Does anyone know if schools that have bilingual classrooms have a higher success rate of EL students completing high school opposed to schools that have English only classrooms? Does anyone know where I can get more information on this subject?

Tons of stuff on Google Scholar. I typed in EL drop out rates.

Here is one summary : In particular, dropout rates are significantly higher for Blacks, Hispanics, and Native Americans than for Anglos and Asian students.
