Should children learn literacy skills in the native language

Post by Paulinna » Sun Oct 05, 2003 11:24 pm

I wanted to know how many bilingual teachers believe that children should learn literacy skills in their native language.

Do you mean "Children should learn literacy skills in their native language first"?

I don't teach children, but since I'm here already...

I don't suppose it matters much to the children, but it'd help the English teacher if the children were already 'skilled-up' in one language.

a considerably amout of know-how in native language is necessary. though that may be intervening with the teaching and learning in the second language.
