Hi Everyone,

I teach English as a second language in an Elementary school. I always wonder if I should teach the rules in English or in the native language. I would like to have opinions/comments about this issue.

Thanks,

Teach in the target language

This is the main reason why Spaniards don't learn to speak English well. The English class is conducted in Spanish. All the important instructions, from greeting the students and telling them to sit down etc. to the grammar explanations, are given in Spanish which teaches the children that they will never be fluent in the target language. A language class should be just that, entirely conducted in the target language.
