traffic lights
Is this understanding correct?
Our traffic lights are red on the left, yellow in the middle, and blue on the right.
US traffic lights are red on the left, yellow in the middle, and green on the right.
UK traffic lights are red on the left, amber in the middle, and green on the right.
Although the names are different, the colors themselves are nearly the same.
Our traffic lights go from red to yellow and then to blue.
US traffic lights go from red straight to green.
UK traffic lights go from red, to red and amber together, and then to green.
Thank you.

Re: traffic lights
US traffic lights are red on the top, yellow in the middle, and green on the bottom. US traffic lights go from red to amber to green. (Otherwise why would you have a yellow light in the middle?)Itasan wrote:Is this understanding correct?

My Mistake, Sorry.
I think I made a big mistake in my original post.
Our (Japanese) traffic lights go: blue - yellow - red; and red - (directly) blue.
Same in other countries? I mean the sequence.

Sequence of Traffic Lights
Thank you very much. Ours do the same.

Blue in Japan and Greenland is sometimes what I would call green as you mentioned. I couldn't see any difference in colour between what I would say was green and they said was blue. But they also said that my blue was blue. It can get confusing when they ask you to find the blue house and all you can see is a green one. In Canada we also usually have a Walk - No Walk sign underneath often with a sound for the blind and now with a countdown so people can decide if they really want to dash across a wide four lane street. There is a small picture of a man walking for Walk and a picture of a hand upheld in the Stop motion for Stop. We also have flashing green lights that allow for left turn if there is no traffic coming the other way or all by itself before the red light in the other lane turns green. We are allowed to turn right on a red light normally if there is no traffic if you are in the right hand turning lane. Red means Stop, yellow means Caution and green means Go. A flashing green light also means that there is a pedestrian controlled traffic signal at the stop and when the pedestrian pushes the button, the green light will go solid for a short period and then turn yellow and red.
There were two traffic lights in the capital of Greenland, Nuuk. No one paid them much mind but if you stepped into the pedistrian cross walk which was indicated by signs on the side of the road and a white diagonal stripe painted on the road, all traffic stopped. Except in winter when the lines were covered by snow. With 2000 or so cars, it was not much of a problem and the sled dogs ignored everything.

Correction of my post
Dear Lorikeet,
>>Our traffic lights go green, yellow, red, green, yellow, red, etc.<<
Sorry my answer was incorrect. I said ours are the same, but ours go as in my original post. Green - Yellow - Red - directly Green.
