Well, I did have a question. I am curious about how you deal with the cultural aspect of living in another country and adapting your teaching style to that culture?
In other words, my German students like a structured classroom with few distractions or "non-related" discussions.
My personal style is to inject a discussion with anecdotes to make the learner feel more relaxed and comfortable. So, we don't really "mesh" together. :D
And since I am teaching in the US, I can't adapt solely to my German students and ignore my other non-native speakers.
And then, I get evaluations...
Another thing...is it true that most Germans (and I realize that this IS a stereotype) don't forgive easily? I had this cultural discussion with a student and she didn't like my remarks about Germany and has held it against me all the time, even though I thought we had regained some footing here.
Also, I don't want to come off as sounding to eager to please my students but a happy medium can be achieved....I think.
