Yes, I'll be looking forward to welcoming you around here! It must be very different from Southern China, I looked up Shenzhen on a map, and it seems to be right there, on what used to be the border between China and Hongkong.
So you know what it's like when borders cease to exist.... Last night there were fireworks all over Europe, to celebrate.
Martin is interesting - he tells a lot of stories about Hongkong. Apparently, he joined an adventure club which took him hiking in remote areas, and which allowed him to pick up a little bit of the language, and he's interested in learning more, of course.
Andreas will be doing fine in the run. We went for the pancake dinner last night, and there was a friend of mine whose daughter will also take part - she's only 7, and she was all excited. They had a stage up where they showed runner's fashion and after the fashion show was over, the kids jumped onto the stage and started dancing, all of them together. My friend and his wife and his daughter are Turkish, Diniz, the little girl, she has long, wavy hair and looks like a little version of Cher, the actress, and she stood out among the mousy-haired children, but different looks, and different religion made no difference when they were all dancing together. That was good to see.
I would marry Andreas any day - he's my love, after all, but he prefers us to remain the way we are - living together, but not as husband and wife. Well, nothing much that I can do about it - thankfully, there's no stigma attached to cohabitating like this any more here.
All the best, Eva

Well, I hope you did get around to studying some business English, with all this housework to be done!
The soup you're describing sounds good - I don't think we get Mung beans over here. There are Chinese restaurants, even one in my village, but they say that Chinese food in China is much better!
I love cats, too. I used to have two black female cats, Sammy and Hati, and they used to dote on me. I travelled quite a bit, though, so whenever I was off to see the world, I carted them over to my mom, and this may have broken their hearts. I don't know. They didn't get to live to the ripe old age that my mom's cats lived to - one of my mom's cats lived to be 23.
The run went well for Andreas. He broke his personal record, and would have been even faster, if another runner had not collapsed right in front of him, and he attended to her instead of heading for the finishing line. That's why I love him, you see - he's very kind-hearted, and I think I wouldn't want to live with a man who doesn't have this quality. (Men who're not adventurous and who're security-minded, I think that's something I could cope with, but a kind heart is a must)
Yesterday I didn't get to sit by the computer. My in-laws (well, I think of them as my in-laws...) took Andreas and me on a bicycle trip north, we cycled and cycled until we reached an ice-cream parlour and stopped for ice-cream. That was nice, sitting there in the garden, trees blooming, birds singing, us eating ice-cream after a long cycle. Today my bum hurts, it was the first time this year, and I'm not used to it anymore.
I hope you got to go swimming and do some other fun stuff. Looking forward to your reply,
Love, Eva

Dear Cute Cat,
Yes, please do!
You're so fortunate to live by the ocean. I can't imagine what it is like for it to be just 10 minutes away. It sounds very alluring, swimming, lying in the sun, sunbathing, playing with the waves. For us, "the sea" means taking a holiday.
I know about the dilemma of continuing a relationship that doesn't seem to have too much of a future to it, and how hard it is to go through with a decision when you look into his eyes, and all your fond memories and your tenderness well up inside of you. It's difficult, I think, to stay "just good friends" with a person who's been a lover of yours - better to make a clean break, if that's what it takes.
Then, on the other hand, many men become quieter and more balanced as they grow older. Andreas has, for sure. He used to be very irritable and short tempered, but he's mellowed out.
You know, I think when it comes to men, all women on the planet basically want the same - a partner who loves them, and who is kind and good and who makes their heart sing. My female students who're 15 to 18, they could have written the same line as you wrote, and me, to.
Have a good rest, I'm looking forward to hearing from you again, soon.

Dear Cute Cat,
I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been well, but it sounds as if things are picking up again.
I agree with you when you say that problems generally can be solved.
Love, however, is something that cannot be forced, and sometimes one's efforts are bound to fail. Friendship after a love-affair sounds nice, but isn't all that easy, especially when there are still some passions around.
It's around 8:30 in the morning here - you must be a couple of hours ahead of us. It's my longest day today, I'll be at school till 10 in the evening, and when I get home, I'm usually exhausted.
My name is Eva Kulda. It's a Czech name, as I am of Czech descent. But I don't speak any Czech any more, even though my parents do. I use the MS outlook program for e-mail, my address is [email protected], but I only check my e-mail once a week or so....
I've looked into chats, but I've never participated. Chats at school are off-limits, and chats at home, well....
Well, have a good night's sleep.

Dear Cute Cat,
I also have the impression at times that time flies, especially when there's so much to fill it with that seems absolutely necessary. Inactivity makes it slow down, I felt, and I suppose that's a reminder to insert periods of inactivity into our daily schedule, where we just sit and contemplate things.
I've been in situations where it's been life or death, and it could have gone the other way, too, had I not been lucky. Or given another chance by benevolent forces up above, depending on which way you want to look at it. I am very, very, very grateful for that, in almost every living moment, and on the ambulance, I get to interact with people whose death is drawing close.
It's struggle for them to accept the inevitable, and I know, that one day it will be my turn, too. Not yet, though, and that's a relief. Somewhere along the line I stopped questioning the purpose of human life, I'm just happy that I am still alive. And I feel it in my bones that there's a purpose to what I'm doing, rendering meaning to my life, all the time, almost, and very intensely. I don't know if I communicate that very well.
I've been to the Netherlands a couple of times, a friend of mine has a sailing boat in a port there, and he invites me now and then to join him. The impression that I've always had of Dutch society is that it's fairly laid-back and open, with an outspoken disdain for rules and regulations, at least in the cities. There is a backbone of hard-work, though, that prevails among the more conservative people, and a high regard for quality and style of a product.
The standard of living is relatively high, and price, I found, was not all that much of an issue. When the product meets their expectations, they're prepared to pay the price for it, and in fact charging too low a price would indicate to them that there's something not quite right with the quality of a product. When you're trying to sell a product, you'll have to focus on what it can do for the customer, I suppose, what kind of dilemmas it will help her to solve, and in what ways it will make his life easier.
I suppose pushing you in at the deep end is one way of making you learn.... are there any consequences for you if you should *not* manage to secure the deal in the manner in which your boss expects you to?
Well, I'll tell you about my own country some other time. This is parents' hour, that means that parents of the students might turn up and inquire as to their sons' progress - or their daughters'. And then, there's a written exam, and then, lessons till late in the evening. At the weekend, we're planning on a kayaking trip - the first one this year. I'll tell you how it went on Monday.
Have agood weekend, I always enjoy reading your posts, all the best, Eva

Yes, that's what happens when people leave school!
It's hard to believe, but the real learning starts once the formal education is over.
Well, maybe the Indian client had his/her reasons not to order - it probably had little to do with your language skills. It's the right attitude to be determined to learn and to get better.
It's sweet of you to say that your improvement is due to our communication here. If anything, it's *your* dedication to get better that makes all the difference.
Being more efficient and more independent sounds boring??? It's something I still strive for, after all these years. I work far too much, I think.
Have a good time with your friend,
Cheers, Eva

Thanks for pointing out your company's websi8te to me, Cute Cat.
It sounds as if you're really making progress! A client of your own, that's quite something.
I've been to the Netherlands a couple of times, it's not all that far from us, and travelling is easy. I think it helps to remind oneself that in Europe, everything tends to be close together, there are no enormous distances to cover. And our lifestyles resemble each other closely, especially when you compare people of the same socio-economic stratum. And people generally *are* quite affluent and secure in their ways.
I told you that I was planning on a kayaking trip last Sunday, didn't I? Well, it was thoroughly enjoyable. There's a rapid that's called "The Freedom", and on Sunday I managed for the first time in my life to make it through the rapid without capsizing and swimming for my life. I was so proud of myself, so thrilled to bits. Both Andreas, my love, and Vero, my sister, made it, too.
I do a lot of activities with my sister. She's your age, Cute Cat, a programmer by training and she works for IBM as a project leader. And she's got a boyfriend, who's nice and all, but who doesn't like kayaking. Andreas likes kayaking, and that's good, because it was me who introduced him to the sport, and it's something that we do together.
Well, looking forward to your story, all the best, Eva

Dear Eva,
Thank you for telling me the story about your country, all the people in the world wish to live like this, affluent and secure,
It sounds exciting, you are brave, you conquer the nature since the nature is always awful and mysterious, yet I always curious to them, but I never have the chance to try, once I watch TV and see the man stand on the top of the wave with the kayaking, that's a the splendid scene, each time I was attract by it, sometimes I make a imagination that I was the man..
WHEN I hear you sister was a project leader of IBM, I was suprise but agree she is a strong woman, I know the IBM is a international company, I think she has good ability to charge the company,I always admire this kind of women, she make a sample for me.
as to my job, there's something wrong, I don't know how to explain the problem that the Netherlands confuse, since he is interested in our product,(maybe you have seen this item BS005, telescopic cup, many europe client like it) and has some special specification about the item, and that need to reform our mold which use to produce this kind of product, and that cost more, so this item he enquiry need to raise the price, if he just buy our product without change any to the item, that's the orginal price of this item. yet he don't understand why the price so different since this kind of telescopic cup inside didn't change at all, yet the fold part, outside deside the mold, he want this item without the bottom bottleopener, and that need to reform our mold, in that cost more, that's the problem, do you understand the mold or what I mean??
maybe if I can't explain it clear and make him understand , he would give up the trade with us,,,,now I think about how to settle this matter...
well, chat in latter, wish you have good time,
cutecat

Yes, I understand what you mean: Since your customer wants a modified product, changes in the production set-up will be necessary, and they will lead to higher costs, which in turn will make the product more expensive. The Dutch customer finds this hard to understand as what he's asking for is actually a simplified version of the original product. What you'll have to communicate to him, I think, is that *all* modifications are costly, and that the costs have to be passed on to the customer - that's the way industry works.
The nature around us is actually quite spectacular and beautiful, and I like to think of myself as a part of it when I'm in my kayak. I can see huge rainbow trout passing beneath my boat, and birds catching fish, eagles in the sky, and snow-covered mountains towering above us. The river glistens in the sun, and it carries me away, quietly, swiftly, and sometimes I hear rapids in the distance and my pulse quickens. When I navigate through the rapids, there's always an adrenaline rush, and I'm happy when I've made it, and when I'm ready to commence my journey. I love kayaking, I really do.
My sister is a very bright, very strong-willed woman. She knows what she's after, and she's prepared to make sacrifices for her goals, and she can be fairly tough, but there is a gentle, compassionate side to her, too. Last year, our great-aunt was dying, and we took turns sitting by her bed. I was impressed by how she handled this situation, after all, she's still fairly young, and many girls her age wouldn't have been able to cope. Her boyfriend would complain as she wasn't spending all that much time with him, and she got to the point where she nearly got rid of him because he didn't understand, and I know how much she loves him and how much that must have hurt her, but she had her priorities, and an old aunt that she loved was one.
Since then, I respect her much more than I did before. For me, she's the most important person in my life, closer than my boyfriend in a way. I don't know if you understand that. When my mother was pregnant with her she almost lost her, and I prayed for her to live, and I have the impression that she's God's gift, do you know what I mean? I really love my sister, Cute Cat, I really do.
I've got two brothers, too, and I love them, too, one of them has two adorable sons, Marcel and Mark. They're 4 and 3.
Are you and your family close and on good terms?
Well, almost time for evening school.
All the best, Eva
