help!presentation contest ideas

Post by Shannon » Tue Feb 15, 2005 8:04 am

Hi! I just started an assignment at a company, and have been asked to help develop an english presentation competition for the employees. Any suggestions? ie. format, criteria, subject (work related, open, etc.). FYI,I am writing from Korea.Several different divisions in the company will be involved as well - possibly a over one hundred people. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

I think it depends on how many will be presenting. If you will really have over 100 people participating, you probably want to keep it short--3-5 minutes/person. I did an exercise where students had to prepare a 3-minute response to a common interview question: "So, tell me a bit about yourself." You could also have them speak in support of, or in opposition to, the statement: "The best way to prepare for a career in business is to major in that subject at college."

Good source texts--Effective Presentations and Presenting in English. Sorry I don't have the author/publisher etc.
