A friend of mine wants to know which of the
following you usually write, particularly in BrE.
1. 24 June 2005
2. 24 June, 2005
3. 24th June 2005
4. 24th June, 2005
5. June 24 2005
6. June 24, 2005
7. June 24th 2005
8. June 24th, 2005

I personally like to write dates as e.g. Friday 13th June 1666, simply because it helps break things up into word-ordinal number-word-number. Using a comma between the month and year is a convention but not a requirement.

I forgot to say, yes, I am from the UK...but this is just my personal style: it might reflect usage in the UK, or perhaps not. You be best to check in something like Swan's
Practical English Usage (Third edition) on what are relatively "straightforward" matters (=personal choices are what ultimately decides the issue!) like this.

Thank you very much. I have Swan's book, etc.,
but what we want to know is the first-hand
information as to whether you yourself say this
or not. So your answer is really valuable, perhaps
more than any books.
