1-2. He is an expert in personal computers.
2-1. He is a veteran in personal computing.

A veteran is someone with extensive experience, while an expert is someone with extensive knowledge.

For example, a fresh grad may be an expert in programming, but not a veteran.

Someone who has been working in the industry for many years is likely to be both.

Veteran has another meaning; it means a soldier who has fought in a war (has combat experience).
