IN/ON the street

Hi guys! I was wondering if you could tell me when should I use "in" and when "on" the street. For example,
I came across a friend of mine IN the street.
There are three businesses ON the/this street.
Cars were parked IN/ON the street.*
Are they OK? Especially the last one, which is the correct preposition? Any clues to predict usage?
Thanks a lot,
Mara.
