backfire refers to a gun that explodes backwards towards the shooter. However it is most commonly used for when a car makes a loud BANG! out of its tailpipe and for when you have a plan that ends up going all wrong and hurting you!
for the term you described, I can't think of a word that would carry that meaning. The only thing I can think of is "taking your anger out on" someone. If you are mad then you go hit a wall or yell at the next person you come upon, you are taking your anger out on he, she or it.
