"He will my shield and portion be."
This is a line from Amazing Grace.
Does that mean the Lord is part of
myself (my portion)? Isn't the Lord
everything to me, not just a part?
Maybe my understanding is incorrect.
What does this 'my portion' mean?
Thank you.

Hi Itasan
The word "portion" could mean "fate" or "lot in life".
I'm not sure if this is how portion was originally meant in Amazing Grace, but it seems to fit.
