attrition

LDCE has this:
attrition (2) Esp AmE when people leave a company or course of study and are not replaced: e.g. Staff reductions could be acieved through attrition and early retirement.
I wonder what is the British equivalent.
Thank you.

In UK Business terms, 'natural wastage'.

In BrE attrician is most often used in terms of 'a war of attrician', e.g. we will deny them of resources until they collapse. It is something you might do to a supplier or buyer (exercising buyer or supplier power, see Porter's 5 forces) or competitor. Both strategies are not sustainable, but it would be done punitively. It is what some big companies do to little companies who fail to meassure up.

"Natural wastage"! That's excellent. I'd never heard it before, and I've taught BE a lot (altho with an American slant).
