We have these Japanese words:

1. WASUREMONO - something one has left behind (e.g. One has put one's bag on a train rack. He had intended to retrieve it when getting off the train but just forgotten to.)

2. OTOSHIMONO - something one has lost (e.g. One has dropped one's keys by mistake.)

3. *beep* - both of the above (together)

I wonder what are the English terms.

I('ve) lost/can't (seem to) find/Have you seen my N - ah, maybe I left (dropped?) it on/in the train.

'Left' is the more general term, 'dropped' more specific (useful therefore, unsurprisingly, in contexts where you want to report that you did indeed e.g. drop your car keys down a sewer rather than leave/lose them there LOL).
