Help with business English

Hi there

I am just coming to the end of my TESOL course and I was thinking about business English as a possible teaching ground.

Could anyone out there offer any advice as to the pitfalls of this area of EFL?

Also. Are there any good books out there on business English with model lesson plans or other such material

Before my training as an EFL teacher I worked in local government for 7 long years so I am hoping this might provide a good start with how to teach BE

Your work in local government will be of use if you were involved in meetings, interviews, project planning and all that kind of stuff that comes up in Business English.

A lot of people prefer to teach general English first, since BE is more specialised, but on the other hand I've heard others say BE is a larger market (because most adult learners need BE for their jobs).

Pitfalls? I find a lot of companies send their staff for a 'business writing course' when their actual complaint is lack of grammatical accuracy. Then later after you've taught them how to write effectively and format documents properly, the HR complains that they still make grammar errors.

Try any of the Cambridge press books for starters.

Try the Market Leader text books - I have used them in Korea and China and they are great.
