press SHARP

Here in Japan, when we dial 0055, the following message is heard:
"This is KDDI. Please dial your credit card number, then press SHARP."
When we dial 0034-111, then:
"Thank you for using NTT Communications. Please enter your card number,
then press SHARP."
'SHARP' is the word I'm curious about, but I'd be very happy if I could have
the whole sentence of the similar message in other countries.

"Please enter (the last 4 digits of your Social Security number/your account number) followed by the pound sign."

Interesting that in Japan you use "SHARP" where we say "the pound sign." Japan must have more musicians...
