progressive emergence

'the progressive emergence of the child as a responsible
being'
This is totally Greek to me. Would you please explain it
in easy English?

Thank you.

P. F. STRAWSON:
FREEDOM AND RESENTMENT

Itasan, is there where you found this sentence? I suppose you need the complete writing to understand exactly what it means.

BUT

What does this have to do with business English exactly?

But, to answer your question:
"A child slowly and steadily develops a sense of responsibility"

Or, since I haven't read the original, it could also mean that people gradually, over time, began to think of children as responsible beings (What they thought of children before this-- as wild animals?--I don't know.)
