hello.
i am currently writing a thesis on the degree to which a knowledge of academic literacy affects a student's cognitive process and his/her ability to produce a good response to an academic question. if academic literacy does not affect the student's ability to think of good ideas, then should students be allowed to submit essays and exams of an academic nature, written in English that mirrors that of sms/ email English? In other words, if a student is able to conceptualise what he/she wants to say, should s/he not be allowed to express this in as quick a way as possible?
i am battling to work through this question, and would really appreciate some help! anyone got any ideas?
