I am in a MATESOL CALL class. One outstanding site that I would highly recommend is
http://adultinstruction.org/administrat ... /index.htm
sponsored by the Division of the Adult and Career Education of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Its ESL/CBET and Citizenship Technology Guide 2002 contains valuable site reviews, articles, lessons and software reviews. From that site I have included from that site one (slightly abbreviated) software review of a product I am interested in due to its capacity to be integrated with TPR – Live Action English Interactive.
Single CD ESL - Level: Beginning Low Beginning High Intermediate Low
• Objectives adequately reinforced
• Wide variety of activities
• Lends itself to class discussion/activities
• Listening practice
• Quizzes
• Entertaining/appealing visuals
• Easy to install and use
• Instructions are easy for students to follow
• Adequate time given for listening/responding
This software effectively utilizes the computer’s interactive potential to create one of the best listening skill products available. This single CD product is divided into twelve units such as Grocery Shopping,
Making a Table and Using a Pay Phone that are supported by a video or a series of still photos Receptive skills precede production skills. Units begin with students listening while watching the video portion of the software. Students can pantomime along with the videos.
The action-based content can easily be integrated into the classroom through TPR (Total Physical Response) activities. After watching and listening to the video or pictures there are six other activities. In the Interaction section, students have to click on the corresponding picture. Students are prompted by oral commands to click and drag the object to the correct corresponding window in the Interaction section.
