Portable Electronic Dictionaries - an online survey.

Post by Django Cat » Fri Mar 11, 2005 11:29 pm

Hi Everyone

I'm currently working on the dissertation for my MEd in ELT and Educational Technology at Manchester University in the UK. I'm looking at teachers' attitudes to Portable Electronic Dictionaries - the calculator-like pocket-sized devices which some EFL/ESL students bring to class.

I've read the exchange on TESL-L on this subject started by Johanna
Stirling, and Johanna's web page discussing her findings. There's not a
great deal published on the subject - I have a paper by Gloria Tang from
the TESL-Canada Journal, but most of my other reading has been
tangental. Any information on other publications on the subject would
be extremely welcome.

The main tool for my research is an online questionnaire. I'm hoping to
get as many responses to the questionnaire as possible, and would be very grateful for posters at Dave's forum taking the time to fill it in. I'd also be very grateful for people passing the URL for the survey to other colleagues who are EFL/ESL teachers. I'm hoping for a global response - the survey went live three days ago, and I've had responses from Australia, various countries in Asia and the Middle East, a few from North America, and of course the UK.

The survey is at http://tinyurl.com/6hcs4 .

Many thanks for your time

Good luck on the survey

I took the survey and it I hope others will do the same. I posted an article on my website with a link to the survey and included some of my opinions regarding the use of dictionaries (both electronic and otherwise) in class. I hope this will help to get the word out there and I look forward to seeing the results.

~~cheers
