Flash?????

Post by stromfi » Thu Nov 24, 2005 3:09 am

Hi,

I've just finished reading the previous thread ("websites"), and I got to see some really nice activities and great websites. As a matter of fact, I've gotten rather interested in learning how to use Flash myself. The only problem is, I have no idea what it is and how to go about getting experienced with it. Could anyone give me some pointers?

Thanks in advance,
Stromfi

I first got interested in Flash because I wanted to make tests that my students could do online. I took a lot of classes in html, photoshop, and javascript, and finally I found Flash. Flash is a program put out by Macromedia. Some people think it can only be used to make animations. While it can certainly do that, it can also make websites interactive. I have used it extensively in the activities on my website. It requires learning how to use ActionScript, the programming language of Flash. I don't pretend to know even a small part of the whole capability of it, but with the small amount that I know, I can make exercises and use it to help my students. I found taking online classes was a good way to learn the software.

While Flash is flashy and can animate and bring lost of motion to a page, PHP is where I would spend my time. It gives you a lot more power and you can intergrate your site much better. I am a PHP beginner and can't give you any real advice, but it's very similar to java and if you're just looking to make quizes with questions and answers, you're better off with java and php in my opinion.

PHP is a coding language, just like HTML or javascript. I'm not sure what it actually stands for. :?

PHP stands for PHP Hypertext Processor. In the computer world, mostly on the unix side, they like to name things like that. It is called recursive name since you still do not know the acronym PHP. GNU, GNU Not Unix is in the same category as this.

I am a PHP programmer and I can also do Flash programming. If you want to have a robust quiz engine, you can use PHP. If you want to have a very animated quiz that requires little speed in terms of loading, you can use FLASH.

And if you don't know PHP but know Flash, you can have a quiz that's interactive and not so animated too ;)
