Looking for partner for Blog project

Post by kopitan2006 » Thu Oct 12, 2006 1:42 pm

Hi, I am a college English teacher in Japan. I have about 180 students at 3 different colleges in Japan, working on the blog project.

Right now we are working on the project called "Today's Japan".
Students focus on contemporary Japanese culture with pictures.
If you are interested, I would like to have partner classroom for this project.

Please reply to [email protected]

Thanks Yukari

Can you tell us more?

Hi Yucari!

Your project sounds very exciting! The Internet really does open up some great opportunities for learning.

Can you tell us a little more about your project? I teach 60 college students in North Carolina. They will soon be finishing up a project on Afgahnistan. Please give us information about the scope of your project. For instance, what do you see your partner school(s) doing? What are the educational and social goals of the project? What is the time frame? How much time is involved? What would be the responsibilities of partner(s)? How do you envision the final product?

I hope that more college teachers will post here so that we can have a way to get in touch with each other about projects. Have your students used YouTube? You could make short little videos - with phones or digital cameras - to illustrate some of your written content.

Young people are so curious about each other, but the truth is, the reality rarely matches what they imagine. I think that this type of project has wonderful potential to help college students gain the skills, understanding and experience they will need in the years ahead.

If you would like to take a look at the information the some of our students asked for and got from Afghan people about their culture, you can take a look at www.eslwebcamforkids.com/forum/ under RED 090 Kite Runner. (They gathered info about Afghanistan as they read the book, The Kite Runner.)

If you would like me to start a new group in the forum for you to introduce your project to potential participants, I would be happy to. Just PM me, or email me at [email protected]

Hope to hear from you soon,
Kathy

about the way to post comments

Post by kopitan2006 » Mon Oct 23, 2006 11:41 pm

Hi, kathy. Oh, you are welcomed to pass it to other instructor.

My students will be so happy and are motivated to write more than before if they know that American students can actually take a look at them.

It is easy to post comments. On the left Colum, there is a section called
"Something Japan ."

You will see students' posting about contemporary Japanese culture with pictures (some don't have pictures, though)

Under their posting, there are words that looks like コメント（comment).
If you click コメント、　there will be a blank box to make comments on.
Please try.

But because you are not yahoo japan member, you need to write down
name and your pass word ( you can decide it on your own)

it lookes like that

コメント（1） (it means comment)

I think that is trouble next people because he is sleepin'. But inside of train is quiet and sway is comfortable, so I sometimes sleep.

名前 パスワード
(name) Pass word you decide

NUFS students have already made those posting, although some have not yet done it. Kenedai and Chubu students are still on their way.

We are so excited about it. I hope we can see your comments.
If you have questions, you can write to me or call me.(do ou have skype?)

Money is not an issue

Hi Bluerose,

I am sure we can hep you work with your students to do an international project. What are your resources? Do you have access to a computer? If you do not have one at school, can you use one in an Internet cafe? If so, ask your students to come up with one English word each and write it in an email to me. I will ask my college students to send a message to your students on the Internet. Tell them that a college in the US will make a surprise for them.

I teach at a community college in the mountains in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Most of my students have had very little contact with students in other parts of the US - much less anywhere else in the world. If they make a surprise for your students - they will have to find Turkey on the map. Sometimes we all have to take baby steps.

Best regards,
Kathy Felts
