Japan: 6 year old student @ jr. high level

Post by jimmytwoshoes » Wed Oct 27, 2004 11:36 am

Hi, I own a small private school in Japan. Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting a very rare case in Japan; a six year old Japanese boy who speaks, reads, and writes at a jr. high school level. He has never been overseas, and his parents are both Japanese who can't speak a word of English.

I am writing because I was wondering if anyone, hopefully in Japan, can offer me any advice on where I can find some decent materials for teaching such a student. I've been looking around for awhile for decent materials, but everything I have found is either too easy or not age appropriate. I don't really believe the internet is a reliable source of decent material, either -- most sites seem to have games or "activities" that are recycled from other sites.

Anyway, thanks for any help!

How about comic books from Japan in English? Dragonballz comes to mind but perhaps there is something newer. The comic companies export the English versions but you might persuade them to give you copies or have someone here send you some and some Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Superman and so on.
