MUCH is used in negative sentences and in questions with uncountable nouns.
MANY in used in negative sentences and in questions with countable nouns.
Both MUCH and MANY are also used in stratements in spoken English.
A LOT OF is used in questions, statemnts and negative sentences with both countable and uncountable nouns.
