Hi,
This is my first teaching job and I am happy to say that I really enjoy it. However I am the type of person that needs to see the whole picture before breaking it down and concentrating on the parts.
Being new to this there is just soooo much to teach and consider when you are teaching English. Also to add to the problem my classes range from absolute beginner to advanced classes with both adult and children.
I am happy to be getting such a range of experience but sometimes I feel completely at a loss to where the class is going and how much I should be teaching during any given month.
Currently I am getting a handle on the different levels and what they should be learning. I have broken most of my classes into different levels and in each level I have about 5 different things I want to teach them during the month.
For example, Beginners (Between absolute beginners and elementary):
-----------------------------
Days/Months/Seasons
Numbers
Ordinals
Question words: Who, what, when, where
Time
On/In/Under
Is this too much? I find that I end up teaching maybe about half of this during a single class and then review it during the month and introduce the other half after they demonstrate an understanding of it.
I don't like the idea of drilling them to death on one single part, I would rather have 15 minutes of each part and repeat it on different days.
I would appreciate some feedback from veteran teachers, since I am new to this I have no idea if what I am doing is right or wrong. Thanks in advance!
How much should I aim to teach in a month?
