ESL frustration

Post by Bethany.Blaine » Tue Nov 29, 2011 12:22 am

There are so many policies that, when put together correctly, make an ESL or Bilingual program effective. Although I am not yet certified to teach ESL, I am learning how difficult it is to make sure each policy (i.e. support and cooperation from administration/other teachers, adequate funding, proper teacher training, etc.) is incorporated in a school and school district. What baffles me the most is the lack of support from administration and other teachers. At the end of the day, the goal of a school is to educate ALL of its students and give ELLs the best chance at learning English and mainstreaming into their peers' classrooms. It seems as though that goal is sometimes lost on those in charge. I hope that when the time comes for me to start my career in ESL that I have a job in a school where I am supported and not looked down upon. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for teachers in this position and I can't stress enough what a good job you are doing!
