Preventing Students from Making 3rd-Person 'S' Mistakes

Post by Insights_Erik » Mon Feb 26, 2018 9:24 pm

I've found a way to help students understand when to use an 's' after present simple verbs and when not to. This method works best when writing sentences (as opposed to speaking), and of course it's only effective if implemented multiple times until the students get used to it.

The method involves keeping track of how many 's's you have at the end of verbs in any given (simple) sentence. I urge my students to use a red pencil for the 3rd-person 's' and for the plural 's' for this reason.
