Starting up a Story Hour

Hi,
I've thinking of starting up a 'story hour' for the kids in my neighbourhood. I think it will be a great hit, but am not entirely sure how it's going to work. OK, I can get hold of some picture story books and read them out to a small gaggle of kids, but is that it? Shouldn't I get some kind of interaction going, such as giving kids flash cards to hold up when they hear certain words? And how much can I charge per kid for something like this?
Any input from anyone who has experienced this kind of setup will be greatly appreciated,
