Teaching children, primary concerns

Assess your attitude and find out what the school wants from you. The children are going to have an English teacher anyway so if it's going to be you, consider first how you would like to be perceived by them and what the school expects. As far as the children are concerned it's always good to be approachable. You don't have to be groovy or stylish. It's much better if you're just a nice person. Your lessons are what really matter and should be interesting, stimulating and age appropriate. Bored children don't learn very well and tend to mis-behave. The golden rule is; 'The quality of the learning lies in the quality of the teaching'.

Don't go too fast. I tried to giveone first grader a crash course on the alphabet, but giving her four letters a day didn't work. She did much better with one letter every two days.
