Could you be more specific? What area are you in? For example, if you live in the south or southwest, you will be working primarily with Hispanics.
You may find that the college courses are too theoretical unless you're lucky. You will learn much more from teaching and working with other esl teachers in the workplace. There's plenty of opportunities to volunteer tutor. That would help a lot. And it looks good on your resume.
You probably won't have an option to teach just k-2. As an elem esl you will teach k-6. Unless your degree area is specifically early child. Even then...
I have noticed that there is not a great emphasis on KK esl. Many teachers believe that the children in K are not ready for esl. They may have a point.
A lot of American k's are practically non verbal so they're all often on an even playing field and pulling out esl's just disorients them.
I don't necessarily agree with the above views but am only providing some ideas.

Getting Started

Hi'
Congratulations on your decision to teach. You will be getting a ton of information about teaching in your course work in college. After you have your degree you may feel like you are not quite sure how it all fits together. Check out my new book which presents teaching children using the secrets of acting. It's me walking you down those beginning roads. By reading it now, I think you will get even more motivated to start preparing for your new career. Planning to teach older children? Well, many of the discipline techniques and others can be successfully applied to teaching older students too. Good luck to you! Sincerely, Carol Keeney
