hi - i'm working without books over the summer, trying to come up with fun ways to teach key vocabulary. so far i've had great success with colors, animals, and foods. anyone have any ideas on a good way to teach family words like sister, brother, mom, dad, grandmom, etc? the kids have really limitted vocabulary, and my bulgarian isn't fantastic. ages 7-10.

thanks

you can use some characters of cartoons such as mickey and mini or donald duck etc and create a family, these kinds of characters take students' attention also english adventure video series from pearson education have some sessions that teach family memebers if you can find it, I can recommend u ..byee

Have them bring in whatever family photos mom will allow - best are ones with only one of two people in the shot at a time.

Draw pictures on the board (stick figures in family tree formation is good enough) and show your own photos and tell about your family first. (You have to model what the kids have to do, of course.)

hello
I have another soution: why not asking your students to draw a famly tree on a big sheet of paper , bring it to the classroom and present it?
I have tried it plenty of times with my students and the results were brilliant- everyone always has a great fun. TRY IT :D

How about making a family tree for a family in a story first, so that the kids can see what one looks like, then have them make their own.
