What are some good writing textbooks for teaching children writing?
I'm looking at a class of 8 year-olds.

My answer may not satisfy you fully, but it's an attempt:
I suppose they have learnt the ABC. Where to go from here?
I remember having a book from Canada for young beginners; it had page upon page of syllables and one-syllable words that were organised into groups of identical or similar sounds along the lines of:
- but, hut, rut, nut
- house, mouse, rouse, douse, grouse, etc.

It seemed to me the intent of the authors of that book was to familiarise the kids with the phonetic structures of English words.
I nearly forgot to add: with increasing complexity the word lists contained incomplete entries such as "n..t" for NUT etc., so the kids learnt to fill in the correct vowel or consonant.
Good exercises, it semed to me, though not applicable to the Chinese classroom situation.

I'm curious as to whether you mean "writing" as in penmanship (forming the letters) or "writing" as in putting thoughts down on paper. Also, what language background are the children, and how much do they write in their native language?
