English for Everyday Situations

Here is an ESL website for students to practice English used in everyday situations. There are phrases and worksheets for each topic. You can find it at: http://drewseslfluencylessons.com. Thanks

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for posting your site! I found it very interesting as a student who is preparing to become an ESL teacher myself. I certainly agree that we need to teach our students to develop linguistic fluency and not focus solely on accuracy or proper English. You provided great examples of phrases that could come up in everyday "real-life" communication. I definitely think that providing them with opportunities to learn colloquial language along with the meanings and proper use of English, will help English Language Learners feel more comfortable speaking to native speakers. The vocabulary worksheets that you provided will help us, as teachers, to facilitate the lessons. Thank you!

Andrew hi!

I would like to thank you for posting your site too. I absolutely agree that ESL lessons should be focused on ‘real world’ expressions for ‘every day’ situations (http://drewseslfluencylessons.com./about/ ). And these ‘every day’ situations should be trained in class.

Working with our older learners (all beginners and in their 60s/70s), for example, we wanted to teach them how to solve communication problems in English using their proper vocabulary. They had a real situation: one’s car has been broken. They just could not use advanced vocabulary but they successfully solved the problem with the help of their own knowledge. However, they had to construct simple but correct English phrases in order to be understood. You may watch their video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnkY1CFX ... JiXm9fbVew

Do you think that before studying some advanced vocabulary, an ESL student has to get such skill as constructing correct sentences not single words or expressions?
