My associated teacher and I came up with an activity to have our secondary 5 students write faster. The thing is, we want more !
Here is the activity : first you post a sentence on the board. Must be a funny sentence because if not they won't go for it !
Then -if the are in rows you take the first person
-if they are in team you pick student A
After, you ask this person to continue the story and to fold the paper so that the person after only see the sentence before theirs.
At the end the story is all over the place and had no sense. But it's funny.
The goal is to go fast.
Please post me other nice ideas

Give them five or six post it notes and have them write things to each other or you.
Have them write a thank you letter to someone in the school but all on the same poster or page, just passing it around.
Brainstorm a topic's vocabulary on the chalk board and give everyone a piece of chalk to add their words. I created more chalk boards so they were on all three walls (you can also write on the windows with special erasable pens). You can buy chalk board paint if you can't get chalk boards.
You can create vocabulary curtains with special pens for fabric and change those often.
Each student can have a big brown envelope and write what they want on a notebook or paper inside. They give it to you to answer or comment on as often as you have time to do it. I had a small class and did it every day. My colleague answered on the computer as she could type fast than she could write. That wasn't as private but provoked more writing as others contributed to the topic. We had a special computer set up for this purpose at a desk in the corner.
Text message the students and they back. It is useful to have their address as you can also text them if they are not paying attention or using their devices during class if they are not supposed to be doing this.
Put up some posters with multiple images in them and the students use post it notes to identify the objects or use adjectives to describe the objects. I had a fantastic series of the alphabet with about 50 images that start with A and so on. I didn't even know the names of some items. There is a book like this and you can blow up the images or copy enough for a group to work on one page.
