Looking for a Social Studies Textbook

Post by tonemachi » Thu Apr 21, 2005 12:52 am

Can anyone suggest a social studies textbook targeted to elementary school students? Ideally, the topics covered will include world politics (i.e. the United Nations), and economics (!) I know this is a tall order because elementary school students usually don't study these topics, but I hope someone can offer some suggestions. If you tell me the titles, perhaps I can find the books online. Thank you.

Those topics you listed might be good for fifth graders, but what age group are you dealing with? Younger students should learn basic map reading skills, how a community works, and how people interact. Try to find something that is as basic or advanced as what they are getting in their other classes. Publishers might have a list of books that could be useful to you.

social studies textbook

My students are high school freshman, but their English ability is quite low. I have been asked to teach them politics and economics in English, but a native English speaker's high school textbook covering these subjects is way beyond their level. That is why I am hoping someone knows of an elementary school text. Thanks,
