A New Kind of Children's Book

Post by Marie3 » Wed Jul 06, 2005 8:57 pm

I ran across a good children's book to use in class called A Treasure's Trove by Michael Stadther. It is a beautiful fairy tale with great illustrations. The main characters try to save the dying forest from the dust that falls each night. There is a nationwide treasure hunt for jewels similar to those sought after in the book as well.
We have broken up in teams to decipher clues throughout the book and its illustrations that lead to the jewels (12 real locations around the U.S.). We have been tracking the books progress with our findings as well. I think about 10 locations have been discovered by now. It has turned out to be great fun for the kids and they are learning a great deal about moral character, problem solving, team work, etc.

That sound really fun. Could you tell me what reading level the book is for?
