20-hour Intensive English Course
Soon I might be assigned to conduct a 20-hour intensive English course for a small class of professionals who want to improve their English. The sessions will run for 2 hours two times a week. Therefore there will be ten meetings. I was told that the content of the course is up to me. I was also told to prepare a course that includes everthing about English. I am thinking of emphasizing speaking and giving plenty of homework. What would you do if you are in this situation?
Hi
I did some intensive courses this summer and it worked out pretty well. All I did was copying some pair/group work worksheets for speaking and I tried to include everything including Speaking, Listening, Writing and Reading. Most of the last two were suggested as homework, Listening was a good practice for my students because they could see their improvement in their listening skills in few days and speaking - we played many games, made conversations about current issues and practises even the grammar - for example I used pairwork materials where you need to ask your partner about the information that are missing in your text (and they have the answers).
The most important step for me was to set a lesson plan and for each lesson I chose a particualr topic (e.g. Love and Marriage, Technologies etc.) and then I just looked for some speaking materials I already have and of course the rest I googled out:)
