Just curious: does Hawthorn count Fridays and Saturdays in their 60 calendar days?

If the contract says "calendar days" it includes weekends. On the rare occasion that the offer doesn't include weekends, it says "work days."

Every contract I ever had was for "calendar days," never "work days." At university level, my summer leave was at least two months.

That doesn't sound like a student/teacher ratio for a college. That's more like what you'd get in a language school. I've been hearing the colleges of applied science have been having significant drops in student enrollment...

Smallest class I've ever had, but, other teachers I work with had much larger classes than I did [nothing like the numbers mentioned by Whatever will be though]. In any event, it's not my bag and the College's Registration Department is responsible for organizing timetables, class lists, etc. and teachers just get what they get. In regards to the rumors you've heard, I don't have all the facts and figures at hand, and, whilst I may have my opinions on the matter, it's probably best if I don't get into that here....

Well as consolation to the 'no leave' policy adopted by Hawthorn-at least the teachers in Salalah can content themselves with- 1] being in the warmer location in Oman at this time of the year, 2] being close to the coast/ beach as a place for recreation..... Laughing

Yeah, there are certainly worse places you could be and, as I mentioned earlier, most of my colleagues always intended to stick around for the full contract. Some of us just had different plans, that's all. Anyway, I don't want to keep flogging a dead horse and I think enough has been said on the topic already, at least by me. By the way, I actually stayed in and around Salalah for the full contract last year (with the exception of a quick trip to Muscat) and, for me at least, it was fine Cool.
