Your passport will matter more than your age. US citizens aren't eligible for work visas in most of Western Europe, regardless of qualifications. Write off Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, and Scandinavia, essentially. |
I work in a school in France and we recruited an American last year. The visa took several months, but she now has the visa and works for us. Also I remember applying to a school in Vienna last year, but they told me they had just recruited a non-EU candidate. I knew this because they said their application process started very soon in order to apply for visas if they were recruiting someone from outside of the EU. So to talk as if it's technically impossible isn't correct as hard as it may be. |

No, it's not totally impossible if a legit school really wants you specifically for some reason (as opposed to wanting any EU candidate for the job). That's why I wrote 'essentially' write them off rather than 'totally forget about it.'
I can also cite a few example, including myself, but it's pretty rare and not something to count on.
It can't hurt to apply for jobs so long as you have all the other requisite qualifications, but it's a long-shot. |

Yes, because I didn't want to be misunderstood. Trying to be clearer. |
