Aye. But Ayn Rand lived her life on planet semi-certifiable bona fide right wing loonietunes.

Possibly you're right.

What I said about Ayn Rand wasn't strictly true though. What she theorised was that there was no such thing as "pure" or "true" altruism. For example, though we might endanger ourselves to save another, and this represents what we believe to be altruism, this is actually a situation where 'something is in it for us' and, therefore, we do it for ourselves - hence, no altruism at all.

Please don't pollute my threads with poems. Let's talk about me for a change.

As far as I know she didn't write any poetry.

What's this then? Poems!

Ayn Rand posited that there was no such thing as altruism. [/b]

Who was it who said, ""From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs, except those who choose to work for a certain stinking Swiss school"

Problems with the Swiss OC?

One thing that's impressive about teaching English in Switzerland is that they seem to have some newsgroups and websites which are well-designed and offer loads of support to teachers - all-in-all a more outwardly professional bunch than in Germany, imho.

If you're looking for a job in Switzerland OC, they even have a few listings. http://www.e-tas.ch/

They do have something to answer for though in creating all those cookie-cutter, miserably paid language programs.

Get ready to broaden your annoyance horizons because there are three of the nasty, low-paid franchise language things from Switzerland.

Berlitz, inlingua and sorry I don't know the 3rd as it's been a while since I was that sort of teacher.

Why oh why do you lot keep working for these schools? Look at the Job Information Journal on this board. It makes gruesome reading and anyone who thinks it's worth it because one of your ancestors might just have been German, well I just wish I had the cash RIGHT NOW to open one of these franchises and get very rich at your expense. I thought you were rich! Anyway, I'm finished here at the end of the year. Got room for a houseguest over there? Wink

I've never worked for any of these schools. I'm just here to keep longtime company. I'm happy with my government job in St. Petersburg in the department of but it is better not to name the department.
