Hello,

I am an American writer (published novels and a produced film ), 50 years old, living in Los Angeles, and thinking of radical life change --teaching English overseas. I do not have a college degree, but I plan to take either a CELTA course or a TESOL program at Univ. Cal. San Diego this summer. I am well traveled -- Europe, Southeast Asia, North Africa, Mexico, Caribbean non-touristy destinations (Haiti and Cuba), I speak German, pretty good Spanish and passable French.

What are the realistic chances of my finding a job where I could do some good and also make an income? Any areas of the world that ar particularly promising or rewarding? I am enterprising and geographically very flexible.

hope someone can help.

thanks

David Madsen

you'll probably have a pretty hard time getting legal work in most places without a degree...lot's of countries require a bachelor's degree for a work permit/visa. i know there are places that don't (china, I think, is one of them) and i'm sure somebody else will give you more info...but you might have some problems depending on where you want to go...
but good luck Cool

Du kannst natuerlich immer mal China versuchen, mein Freund, although I would say having an interest in that country in the first place would protect you from illusions to some extent!
You can aspire to a monthly salary of US500 to 1000, net in your pocket.
This is feasible because you get housing benefits and other perks that locals do not always get.
However, working in China means you must be equipped with a parachute because Jobs are not stable, bosses are tyrannical and incompetent, and learners are fickle!
